Johan Kristoffersson took PSRX Volkswagen Sweden’s first podium when he finished third in the Portugese round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship.
PSRX Volkswagen World RX Team Sweden dominated the second round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Montalegre in Portugal with Johan Kristoffersson and his team-mate Petter Solberg in the lead from the first qualifying heat.
Just like at the first race of the season in Barcelona earlier this month, Johan made it to the final and was impressively fast. He and Petter were first and second in the first part of the final race in their Volkswagen Polo GTI Supercars. After a tough and thrilling battle, Johan finished third and took the newly formed team’s first podium.
”I slipped in behind Petter in the final” said Johan. ”The plan was to stay there for a while and it worked well until he suffered a puncture. It was yet another good weekend for the team but it would have been even nicer to score the win – I think we were both fast enough to make it. I missed the joker lap in Q3 and it was really frustrating and maybe it cost me the chance of a better start position in the final. But it happens. It was simply a mistake, nothing else” explained Johan.

Even though they couldn’t hold on to their lead, Johan is full of praise for the Sweden based team and the upgrades and improvements that has been made to their Polo GTI since the season opener.
”I have to say that the team has done an amazing job after Barcelona. Everybody has worked very hard, we had things that needed to be fixed with the car and it’s all starting to come together now. I’m just looking forward to the next race. Petter and I are determined to come back with this year’s first victory for PSRX Volkswagen Sweden” said Johan.
Johan is currently in second place in the drivers’ championship standings, while PSRX Volkswagen Sweden is still leading the team championship.

Johan Kristoffersson is gearing up for another season in the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC). This time he is back representing his family team KMS with support from Volkswagen.
Johan Kristoffersson became STCC champion in 2012 and with that, he gave Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS) their sixth title in the championship. Last year, he competed for PWR Racing but is now back where he started. The new TCR regulations were welcomed by Volkswagen and Johan will be found behind the wheel of a Golf GTI TCR.
”This will be massively exciting. It’s really fun that we’re back driving real production cars again” said the 28-year-old.
Johan’s main focus is on the FIA World Rallycross Championship and he is not expecting to win the STCC champion title. He will miss the season premiere and the two last races in the series – still he aims for victories.
”I will go for the win at every race that I participate in. If I am on the start line, I want to finish first!”

The look of the new KMS Golf was revealed today and the team is eager to be back in the championship after a few years’ break during the TTA era.
”During that time, when we had no cars we could identify with, we moved on to rallycross. Now we are back as the only old team in the championship, at the same time as we are joined by new teams and challenges. We have a great teamwork with our partners and for us it’s also interesting with Volkswagen’s upcoming R5 rally car, which is under development, as we’re working with EVEN Management as well and they are currently focusing on rally” said team manager Tommy Kristoffersson.
The second car will be driven by STCC debutant Fredrik Blomstedt, who has successfully competed in different series abroad.

Johan Kristoffersson and PSRX Volkswagen World RX Team Sweden showed both speed and incredible potential at the opening round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Barcelona.
The Volkswagen Polo GTI Supercar was in a class of its own at the first World RX race of the season. Johan Kristoffersson set a high pace and after winning the first qualifying heat, he managed to stay in the top three and progress to the final. He started from first place on the grid, but got away badly and eventually had to settle for sixth.
“The team has put so much work in and everything is working so well from the first race. Naturally, I was a little disappointed with the final, I really wanted a great result for the whole PSRX Volkswagen Sweden team – those guys worked so hard – but this is racing. The big thing is the pace we have from the car. It just makes me more determined to do even better for the team at the second round” said Johan.
With the season premiere completed, Johan is in fourth place in the driver’s championship standings, while PSRX tops the leaderboard in the team championship.
The next race weekend in the World RX takes place in Montalegre, Portugal, on 20 and 21 April.
