Inspiring STCC comeback for Kristoffersson, KMS and Volkswagen

Johan Kristoffersson is gearing up for another season in the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC). This time he is back representing his family team KMS with support from Volkswagen.

Johan Kristoffersson became STCC champion in 2012 and with that, he gave Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS) their sixth title in the championship. Last year, he competed for PWR Racing but is now back where he started. The new TCR regulations were welcomed by Volkswagen and Johan will be found behind the wheel of a Golf GTI TCR.

”This will be massively exciting. It’s really fun that we’re back driving real production cars again” said the 28-year-old.

Johan’s main focus is on the FIA World Rallycross Championship and he is not expecting to win the STCC champion title. He will miss the season premiere and the two last races in the series – still he aims for victories.

”I will go for the win at every race that I participate in. If I am on the start line, I want to finish first!”

The look of the new KMS Golf was revealed today and the team is eager to be back in the championship after a few years’ break during the TTA era.

”During that time, when we had no cars we could identify with, we moved on to rallycross. Now we are back as the only old team in the championship, at the same time as we are joined by new teams and challenges. We have a great teamwork with our partners and for us it’s also interesting with Volkswagen’s upcoming R5 rally car, which is under development, as we’re working with EVEN Management as well and they are currently focusing on rally” said team manager Tommy Kristoffersson.

The second car will be driven by STCC debutant Fredrik Blomstedt, who has successfully competed in different series abroad.

Strong season debut in Spain for Kristoffersson

Strong season debut in Spain for Kristoffersson

Johan Kristoffersson and PSRX Volkswagen World RX Team Sweden showed both speed and incredible potential at the opening round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Barcelona.

The Volkswagen Polo GTI Supercar was in a class of its own at the first World RX race of the season. Johan Kristoffersson set a high pace and after winning the first qualifying heat, he managed to stay in the top three and progress to the final. He started from first place on the grid, but got away badly and eventually had to settle for sixth.

“The team has put so much work in and everything is working so well from the first race. Naturally, I was a little disappointed with the final, I really wanted a great result for the whole PSRX Volkswagen Sweden team – those guys worked so hard – but this is racing. The big thing is the pace we have from the car. It just makes me more determined to do even better for the team at the second round” said Johan.

With the season premiere completed, Johan is in fourth place in the driver’s championship standings, while PSRX tops the leaderboard in the team championship.

The next race weekend in the World RX takes place in Montalegre, Portugal, on 20 and 21 April.

VW dream team for Kristoffersson

A sensational Swedish-Norwegian deal is in place – last year’s FIA World Rallycross Championship silver medalist Johan Kristoffersson joins Petter Solberg and Volkswagen Sweden and forms a brand new team for the 2017 season.

”I am very proud to be a part of this extremely exciting project together with Petter Solberg and Volkswagen Sweden. It’s a dream come true in every way. Together we will do everything in our power to achieve the best possible result. I will grab this ”once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity with both my hands” said a Johan Kristoffersson, who finished second in the World RX championship last year and third in 2015.

The Swede and the Norwegian will be driving two Volkswagen Polo RX Supercars that have been developed at Volkswagen Motorsport in Germany. And this is not just any car – it is the fastest competitive car that has ever competed in any FIA regulated series. With this, Johan and Petter get an amazing chance to fight together for the top spot in the championship with a monster that accelerates to 100km/h quicker than a Fomula 1 car.

Success is what Johan wants and expects out of the without a doubt most exciting cooperation so far in the World Rallycross Championship and he believes in a fantastic 2017.

”To get to do this with Petter, PSRX and Volkswagen Sweden is optimal for me. What we need to do now is to take advantage of this perfect start, get an equally great midsection and a flawless finish! We aim towards winning the team championship and obviously the driver’s championship as well. Petter already has two titles so maybe it’s time for him to help me get my own” said Johan with a smile.

The FIA World Rallycross Championship kicks off in Barcelona on March 31st. The whole team looks forward to their first start and to see how their Polo can measure up against a strong and competitive field in a very exciting championship.

EVEN Management’s Swedish rallycross driver Johan Kristoffersson secured second place in the FIA World Rallycross Driver’s Championship when he finished second at the final round in Argentina (November 27).

A brilliant drive by Johanin the semi-final and final aboard his Volkswagen Polo RX, secured the experienced driver second overall in the Drivers’ Championship after a year-long battle.

He was delighted to have improved on his third place in the World RX from 2015 year by finishing second in Rosario. “After the semi-finals I knew I had to be first or second in the final to be second in the Championship. The start went well, and we managed to avoid any contact. I have to admit I was driving a little bit like a grandma, avoiding punctures and no drifting or anything, but it’s such a great feeling to be second in the race and the Championship,” said Johan. “At the beginning of the weekend it didn’t feel like we were where we wanted to be, but everyone worked really hard and we finished one place better than last season in the points. I have to say it’s very tight, for there to be only one point between second and fourth in the Championship after 12 events is just amazing. Big thanks to the team and our partners!”

Johan’s team Volkswagen RX Sweden also secured a podium in the Teams’ Championship after the great efforts by Johan and his team-mate Anton Marklund.

Team Principal Michael Schneider was delighted for the whole Volkswagen RX Sweden team that the weekend’s target had been reached. “This is really great. Johan and Anton both performed so well this weekend. The way Johan drove in both the semi-finals and final was fantastic, it’s incredible,” he said. “We had the chance to be second in the Drivers’ Championship and third in the Teams’ Championship coming here and we achieved it. I have to thank the team, sponsors, partners and team owner Jan Marklund. Everyone has worked so hard all season long and everyone deserves this.”

Sixth for Kristoffersson at World RX in Germany

Sixth for Kristoffersson at World RX in Germany

Swedish driver Johan Kristoffersson finished sixth at the penultimate round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, held at the traditional Estering circuit in Germany. This keeps him in contention for second overall in the 2016 Drivers’ Championship.

Fifth fastest in Q1, Johan maintained consistent pace through the qualifying stages of the event to be sixth at the Intermediate Classification, collecting a good halt of Championship points, before he fought back from a slow start in semi-final two to make it into the final. The experienced driver challenged for a podium position in the early stages of the final, but a puncture on the third lap put him out of contention.

The EVEN Management athlete was pleased to make the final and aid his chances of improving on his third overall finish in World RX from last season. “It felt like we were fighting from the back a little bit this weekend. I didn’t have any luck getting good start positions in the qualifying races. I think my best position out of the first corner was third all weekend, so we had to fight hard,” said Johan. “We had great speed to make it into the semi-final and we had a good grid position. I felt we would be able to show what we could do, but then I stalled at the start. That was very annoying and I just fought hard to get into the final. We had the quickest lap of the day in the semi-final, and we were fighting for a podium in the final but I got a puncture and that was that. It’s really good we scored a lot of points and we will push hard to be fast in Argentina.”

The final round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship takes place at Rosario in Argentina (November 26 – 27).

Kristoffersson climbs to second in World Rallycross Drivers’ Championship

Multi-discipline motorsport star Johan Kristoffersson climbed to second overall in the FIA World Rallycross Championship classification by qualifying top at the Intermediate Classification and finishing fifth in the final at the Latvian round of World RX in Riga (October 2).

Proving the pace of the Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar in both wet and dry conditions, Kristoffersson set the fastest time in Q2 on Saturday afternoon before claiming top spot in Q3, in torrential rain. Incredibly, the Swede’s time was nearly six seconds faster than any other driver. Starting on pole position for semi-final one, Kristoffersson only just missed out on victory to nine-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb, before finishing fifth in the final to climb to second in the World RX Drivers’ Championship table.

With two rounds of the FIA World Rallycross Championship remaining in Germany and Argentina, Kristoffersson is just 27 points shy of the championship lead, with a maximum of 60 points available from the final two rounds. “I was able do one very quick run in the dry and one in the wet this weekend, so that was good, and to be top after the qualifying races and move to P2 in the championship is great. I have to thank the whole team because now we are scoring a lot of points at every race. We just have to keep pushing, to continue to try and fight for this championship,” said the EVEN Management athlete. “We missed a bit of pace in the semi-final and final, so it has not been an easy day for sure. We have made a lot of progress in the last few events and I’m looking forward to Germany in two weeks.”

Team Principal Michael Schneider is pleased with the progress made in both wet and dry conditions, and says the team will do all it can to help Kristoffersson fight for the World RX Drivers’ Championship title. “Johan had a very good weekend. To be top qualifier takes a huge effort from the team and driver, and it proves again that we have the pace to run at the front,” said Schneider. “It’s great that Johan has climbed to second in the championship, we will work hard to do everything we can to finish in the best possible place after the last round in Argentina. Nothing is over until after the final round.”

The next round of World RX takes place in two weeks’ time at the Estering in Germany (October 15 – 16).
